Dr. Gallegos is a fifth-generation Colorado native. She attended the University of Southern Colorado, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in chemistry and mathematics. While Dr. Gallegos was in college, she worked as a dental assistant and as a dental laboratory technician (making crowns and bridges). She then attended the University of Colorado School of Dentistry and received her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) in 1983.
While she was in dental school, she received the following awards: Academy of Operative Dentistry for Outstanding Achievement in Operative Dentistry; Quintessent Book Award for Outstanding Excellence in the Discipline of Restorative Dentistry; the Ken Grove Award for Excellence in Restorative Dentistry; the Colorado Prosthodontic Society Award for Outstanding Senior Student in the field of Prosthodontics.
During her dental education, Dr. Gallegos developed a love for prosthodontics and decided to become a specialist in the field. She was accepted to the University of Washington School of Dentistry Fixed Prosthodontic program, with an emphasis in periodontal prosthetics. She was the first woman to be accepted into this program, known for its rigorous curriculum. She received her Master of Science degree (MSD) and her certificate for this specialty in 1986.
Dr. Gallegos returned to Denver, Colorado, started a private practice, and also began teaching part-time at the University of Colorado School of Dentistry. She was the director of the Advanced General Dentistry program for three years before deciding to leave teaching and dedicate herself solely to her private prosthodontic practice.
Dr. Gallegos actively mentors other dentists and is involved in several dental study clubs, including: Seattle Study Club affiliates (Colorado Academy of Excellence in Dentistry and the 5280 Study Club), and the ITI Study Club. She makes a point to stay on track with current advances in dentistry by attending continuing education courses on dental implants, prosthetic dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, reconstructive dentistry, dental materials, and dental technology.
Dr. Gallegos donates her services to organizations throughout the community, including: Dentistry for the Handicapped, Dental Lifeline Network, Friends of Man, Old Age Pensioners Fund, and Peer I (an organization dedicated to helping men who have completed rehab programs re-enter the workforce).
